2018 Top Skincare Resolutions You Should Do

It's almost the New Year and the perfect time to set some fresh goals. Let's be honest, majority of people don't take enough time in their skincare routine. If you aren't sure where to start or can't find the motivation to do it on your own, I've listed 5 great skincare routine goals that will help guide you into the New Year!

1. I will not pick at my skin.

Most of us are guilty at this one and trust me, I've been there. Picking at your skin can lead to a more serious infection which can lead to more blemishes and potential scarring. Instead of picking, apply warm compresses and a pore-refining clay mask as a spot treatment.

2. I will stick to a skincare routine.

This is the best way to control the health of your skin. There are many products out there, but I highly recommend the pharmaceutical grade products that are recommended by your licensed esthetician or dermatologist. This will give your skin the best results aside from buying products from beauty stores that are open to the public. If you're not sure how to layer products and get mixed up between steps, here's a step-by-step general program that I use in my daily skincare routine:

1. Cleanse - am/pm

2. Exfoliate - every other day or 3x a week

3. Mist - am/pm (I recommend mist instead of toners due to toners stripping your skin of it's natural oils and causing it to be severely dry) 4. Serums - am/pm

5. Moisturizer - am/pm

6. Sunscreen (SPF) - am or anytime before 5pm Certain skin types may vary in their skincare routine, however, it will look very similar to this and give you a basic idea of how to start caring for your skin.

3. I will moisturize and wear SPF daily.

Moisturizing and sunscreen is very crucial to prevent premature aging. Moisturize your skin to nourish and protect it morning and night. For sunscreen, you want to make sure that your SPF is at least 30. SPF's that are higher than 30 have not been proven to work better and will still need to be reapplied every 2 hours. No matter if your inside the house or it's just cloudy outside, sun rays will definitely be shining thru. Make sure to apply your SPF daily every 2 hours before 5pm or every hour if your sweating or swimming.

4. I will wash my make up every night before going to sleep.

Did you know that going to bed with makeup can make your skin age up to 7x faster? Not only is this fact scary, but it also can cause clogged pores, blemishes, and even lead to infections. Always wash your skin before bedtime, no matter how tired you are. Your skin will thank you later!

5. I will eat friendly-skin foods in my diet.

Not only will eating healthy foods make you feel better inside, but your skin will be glowing once you do! Foods that include too much sugar can cause inflammation which breaks down collagen and elastin in your skin which then results in premature aging. Here's a list of great foods that you can add to your diet to promote skin health:

- Olive Oil

- Vegetables: Tomatoes, Rosemary, Soybeans, Red Peppers, Carrots, Beets, Red Cabbage - Fruits: Blueberries, Raspberries, Pomegranates, Oranges, Papaya, Coconut, Lemons

- Dark Chocolate

- Oatmeal

- Green Tea

- Walnuts/Almonds

- Kidney Beans

- Sunflower Seeds, Black Sesame Seeds, Pumpkin Seeds - Salmon, Lean Meat

- Wholegrains - Water, Coconut Water

Whatever you choose to be your resolutions in 2018, it's all about setting a short term goal, achieving them, and evolving into a better you. Make it happen, you deserve it!
